Lonely people write great college essays

I find myself writing when I'm lonely.

The blank page is a loyal friend.

One who I'm not afraid to text.

Who cannot ignore my texts.

He takes my word as truth when I revise history and declare fate.

Perhaps writers are the ultimate narcissists.

Because a blank page cannot dissent.

Perhaps it's also not a flaw.

A college essay is your time to be the main character.

After ten years of writing I've realized something.

Your best writing happens when no one's checking on you.

When no one even knows where you are.

That even if they tried, they cannot pollute your thoughts.

Creativity. Individuality. Your core.

These light up in loneliness.

So the next time you're feeling lonely, take it as a blessing.

It just might be a sign to start on that essay.
